What it is

Polk Audio is the value end of our speaker range. Not cheap — good speakers at a price that lets you do more rooms rather than fewer.

Who it suits

Kitchens, patios, passages, bedrooms, guest rooms, offices. Rooms where music is present rather than listened to. In most houses, that is most rooms.

Putting reference speakers in a passage is not a better system, it is a more expensive one. A common and sensible specification is Monitor Audio in the main listening or cinema room and Polk through the rest of the house, all driven from the same Denon system and fed by the same WiiM source.

What we install

• In-ceiling and in-wall speakers — for rooms where nothing should be visible.
• Bookshelf and floorstanding — where there is space and the room deserves stereo.
• Outdoor and patio speakers — built for weather, which matters more in Johannesburg summers than most people expect.
• Cinema packages — surround sets for rooms that want cinema without a cinema budget.

What an install involves

1. Site visit — which rooms, ceiling type, cable routes, and whether the amplification you have will drive what you want.
2. Design — speaker positions and zones, sized to the rooms.
3. Written quote — per room, so you can do the living areas now and bedrooms later.
4. Installation — cabling, cutting and mounting, connection to your amplification.
5. Commissioning — levels balanced room to room so one zone is not shouting while another whispers.

Common questions

Are they good enough?
For what they are for, yes. We would not fit them otherwise. The question is not whether Polk is good, it is which rooms justify spending more.

Can I mix Polk and Monitor Audio in one system?
Yes, and it is often the right answer. Different rooms, different jobs, one system.

Can they go outside?
The outdoor range, yes. Indoor speakers on a patio will not last and we will not fit them there.

Can I upgrade later?
Yes. If you design the cabling properly at the start, changing speakers later is straightforward. That is part of what the design stage is for.
