What it is

Lutron is the lighting control system most often named on architect-led homes. We work with the RA2 Select system: control from the app anywhere in the world, wireless Pico remotes for in-room control, and up to 100 devices on one system.

Why it gets specified

Lutron runs on its own Clear Connect RF rather than your wifi. That is the entire argument, and it is a good one: the lighting is not competing with phones, TVs and cameras for airtime, and it keeps working when the internet does not. On a house where the lighting is part of the design, that reliability is what you are paying for.

Who it suits

Homes where lighting was designed rather than added. Anyone who has lived with a wifi-based system that drops out. Architects and designers specifying for a client who will not tolerate a scene that half-works.

And who it does not. For a lot of homes Lutron is more system than the job needs. If you want app control of the lights in four rooms on a normal retrofit budget, smart switches will do that honestly and for less. What an install involves

1. Site visit or plan review — circuits, distribution board, and which rooms genuinely need scene control rather than a switch.
2. Design — device schedule, Pico positions, scene list. If you are still building, this is the stage that saves money.
3. Written quote — hardware and installation itemised, phased if you want to start with the main living areas.
4. Installation and programming — devices fitted, system commissioned, scenes built.
5. Handover — we sit down with you and set the scenes to what you actually want, not to what looked good on paper.

What happens if it fails?

• The wall control still works. Nobody is left in the dark because an app is misbehaving.
• Clear Connect is independent of your wifi, so an internet outage costs you remote control, not the lighting.
• After load-shedding the system returns to a defined state rather than everything coming on at once.
• Support by phone and WhatsApp during business hours, Monday to Friday, with Homemation behind us for anything that needs the distributor.

Common questions

Do I need to rewire?
Not usually. RA2 Select is designed to retrofit. We confirm on the site visit.

Can I start with one area?
Yes. Up to 100 devices on one system means you can grow into it without replacing anything.

Will it work with the rest of my house?
Tell us what else you are running and we will give you a straight answer on what integrates and what does not.

Is it worth it over smart switches?
In the right house, yes. In the wrong house, no. Ask us and we will say which yours is.
