What it is

Marantz makes premium amplification and AV receivers. It sits above Denon in the same way Monitor Audio sits above Polk — not because Denon is bad, but because at a certain level the amplifier stops being plumbing and starts being part of what you hear.

Who it suits

The dedicated listening room. The serious cinema. Anyone putting Monitor Audio Gold or Platinum into a space and wanting the amplification to be worthy of it.

Who it does not. Background music through the house. If nobody is going to sit down and listen, this is money that would do more work as extra rooms or better speakers. We will say so.

What an install involves

1. Room assessment — dimensions, surfaces, seating position. At this level the room is as much a component as the electronics.
2. Design — amplification matched to the speakers, source and cabling specified, ventilation and rack position planned.
3. Written quote — itemised, so you can see exactly where the money is going.
4. Installation — cabling, equipment sited, speakers connected.
5. Commissioning by ear — levels and positioning set in the actual room. Equipment of this calibre set up carelessly will sound worse than cheaper gear set up properly.

Common questions

Marantz or Denon?
Denon for most multi-room and cinema. Marantz where the listening is the point. Tell us the room and we will tell you which it justifies.

Can I mix it with a Denon multi-room system?
Usually yes — Marantz in the main room, Denon and HEOS elsewhere, is a sensible and common specification.

Is it worth it if my room is not treated?
Honestly, sometimes not. Speaker positioning and the room itself often matter more than the box. We will tell you where your money buys the most improvement.

Do you supply as well as install?
Yes, through official Homemation distribution with the warranty intact. If you have already bought elsewhere we will still install and commission it.
